Howdy music lovers!
Welcome to another dose of the good stuff for vinyl addicts. For this fix, we’ve flicked through the hundreds of R&B and Blues repros and reissues we keep in the opium den that is our basement and we’ve picked out a few of our faves – some are classics and some deserve to be. If this little selection has got your head in a spin then there’s plenty more of this good stuff on our website – check it out.
Andre Williams – Don’t Touch, Goin’ Down To Tia Juana + 2 – Koko Mojo EP 45
Four Motor city greasy groovers from Mr Rhythm. These are the last few copies of this limited edition Koko Mojo EP we have left. Essential Fortune recordings.
Shirley Ann Lee – How Can I Lose / There’s A Light – Revival 45 RE
Raw Lo-Fi Michigan rockin’ gospel bop from the amazing Shirley Ann Lee. Flipped with a truly beautiful soulful mover. An absolute favourite!
Cledus Harrison – Rock And Roll In The Groove / Go On Baby – Natural 45 RE
One of the greatest and rarest Black Rock’n’Roll 45s ever! Everybody should have this record in their collection but odds are you’ll never find an original copy, no matter how hard you dig or how deep your pockets are. So it’s fair to say that his repro might have to keep you goin’…maybe forever.
Charles Sheffield – It’s Your Voodoo Working / Rock ‘N’ Roll Train – Excello 45 RE
Monstrous New Breed R&B double decker from ‘Mad Dog’ Sheffield. Over the last 15 or more years this record has been championed by the Northern Soul collectors and prices for an original copy are now up to four figures. Eight quid will get you this lovely repro while you’re saving your pennies for a real one.
The Devotions – Zindy Lou / Snow White – Roulette 45 RE
Pounding Doo Wopxotica (I think we might have invented a new word there) and maybe the best version of the Chimes classic.
Wild Child Gipson – Kool / Lost Control – It’s A Hit 45 RE
Powerhouse Chi Town R&B / Black Rocker. A damn fine record and a bonafide Desperate Rock’n’Roll classic.
