The album and bonus CD contain Johnny Kidd’s recordings from 1959 to 1962 focusing on his earliest work with the first Pirates group, recordings with classic ‘Mark 2’ Pirates Brian Gregg, Alan Caddy and drum legend Clem Cattini!

The bonus CD contains covers of his songs, but only those recorded in continental Europe and Great Britain, as well as recordings of other bands that included members of the Pirates and covers of his songs by European bands of the early 1960s!

Alongside Billy Fury, Tommy Steele and Cliff Richard, Kidd is one of the most important and influential musicians of the pre-Beatles era in Great Britain.

His Shakin ‘All Over is one of the greatest, worldwide popular rock anthems that every music lover knows, and was covered by countless bands and artists in the 1960s!

Bands like The Who and the Hollies refer to him and his backing band The Pirates as important musical role models.

In addition to the record and CD, the set also includes a Johnny Kidd promotion postcard.

Johnny Kidd and the Pirates were responsible for the number one hit Shakin ‘All Over in 1960, which is still considered one of the most important recordings in British pop music history. That record alone would warrant inclusion on the Bear Family Records® 10inch vinyl LP series, but the group produced a number of other excellent releases that undoubtedly earned them a place in the pantheon of British pop stars alongside Cliff Richard, The Shadows and Billy Fury from before the Beatles.

Unlike his contemporaries, Kidd’s exceptional voice showed no Presley influence, and he was also responsible for the writing or note taking of much of his early works. As a live act, the group was groundbreaking. Performing in full pirate gear in front of a 20 foot x 30 foot galleon backdrop, Kidd’s power trios influenced musicians across the country – The Who, The Hollies, and Wilko Johnson are just three of the artists open to their appreciation for the Chief Pirate known.

This compilation focuses on Kidd’s earliest work with the first pirate group, recordings with the classic ‘Mark 2′ Pirates Brian Gregg, Alan Caddy and drum legend Clem Cattini.
