These records won't collect themselves...
Billy Riley, a Sun talent who should have been a superstar but, it hardly matters how bright you shine if you are standing next to Elvis and so he was overshadowed.
He was one of the bluesiest of the Sun white boys and on these tracks recorded in 1957, although they are still quintessential Rockabilly, he is already moving in the blues direction. His take on the blues/trad topside is a brilliant super sparse bass led workout with his excellent rasping vocal used to top affect. The flip is a raucous rocker with the Little Green Men all on fine form.
This great version of Baby Please Don’t Go has been overlooked too long.
