We were sunning our tatts here on the terrace on the Costa Del Camden, sipping on artisan lager-tops, wondering what we put on the menu for you this week when Koko Mojo came along with six brand spanking new CDs for our plat du jour – Buon a’potato!
Well, this is the seventh in the 10 Commandments series and we reach a commandment which we’re not entirely sure Moses ever received … ‘Be Emphatic’? Anyway, it’s really just a good excuse to pick out 30 great Rock ‘n’ Roll and R&B tunes about ‘emphaticness’. With some educated guesswork and some advanced maths, we figure that there will be another three volumes in this series after this one. We’re pretty sure we have all the previous volumes in stock so it’s not too late to collect the set.
You might think that this is a comp series about girls with loose morals or maybe, going by the subtitle, a compilation of songs about a rotating device placed in the middle of a table to aid the distribution of food but it’s actually about neither and again, just another excuse to gather up 28 killer Rockabilly and Rock ‘n’ Roll tunes.
This one is just a flat out great comp of fantastic Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rockabilly with a few lesser-known tunes in the mix. Some of the earlier volumes in this series had a few lame tunes mixed in with the goodies but, hand on heart, every track on this volume is a winner.
Another 28 rev’d up Rockers in an R&B and Blues style about cars and driving. Them folks at Koko Mojo seem to like a theme even more than we do!
This Southern Bred series has been a fantastic collection of superfine Rhythm & Blues from the southern states of the U.S.A. and this edition, volume 17 (yes 17!) is just as great. For this edition, it’s back to the swampy bayous of Louisiana and onward to the crescent city – New Orleans – for more rockin’ R&B greatness.
Here’s another brand new volume in the original Blues series that kicked off the Koko Mojo label about 10 or more years ago. Compiled by Blues man Little Victor, it gathers up another bunch of lesser-known but amazing Blues and R&B Rockers.
