LONESOME SUNDOWN – I HAD A DREAM LAST NIGHT / YOU’RE PLAYIN’ HOOKEY – EXCELLO

Lonesome is a blues / RnB Louisiana legend.  He had nearly 20 45s issued between 1956 and 1965 all on Excello records.   That really is a remarkable run, most artists get an issue or at best a few unless they have some huge hit.  Lonesome never had a huge hit but all his records sold well.  He had a sound you could recognise straight away but he was versatile and embraced every style of RnB that emerged over that febrile decade.

The two tracks on this 45 bring together two fabulous 60’s RnB dancers from the end of his time at Excello.  Dream is a swamped drenched rollin’ RnB stomper.  Hookey has more of a teen almost Chuck Berryish sound.  Both sides are super dancers.
