A big mod jazz and R&B discovery of the last few years has been ‘Hard Working Girl’ by the Clarence Daniels Orchestra with guest vocalist Obie Jessie (aka Young Jessie). It has the vibe of an Oscar Brown classic but was pressed in such small quantities that it has taken over 40 years to register with music lovers. The previously unissued ‘Another Child Lost’ by fellow Californian Floyd White is another superb jazz-influenced vocal with an irresistible rhythm.
