A Mississippi homeboy of Elvis Presley’s, Gene Simmons was born in Tupelo and formed his first band with kid brother, Carl. A chance meeting with the Hillbilly Cat at a radio station in 1955 persuaded the Simmons boys to demo for Sun which led to the release of “Drinkin’ Wine” c/w “I Done Told You”. A fine singer with a cool line in hipster lyrics, Gene Simmons’ time in the studio at 706 Union has also resulted in alternative takes of these rockabilly classics which we present on this four tracker
