In its three short years Groove defined East Coast RnB and the two sides on this 45 are excellent examples of the Big Band jumin’ RnB style. With the backing of the parent label RCA, Groove it had access to the finest studios and session musicians. It also had access to RCA artists such as the multitalented Jazz Man Shorty Rogers, and it is Shorty Rogers and his men who are actually on these recordings. Too Bad is tough and boots along with the flip taking us in a more jivin’ direction. I really can see the dance floors filling for both sides.

It may be like other established artists in the Jazz and Country fields (see Thumper Jones Et Al) Shorty did not want his name on this low class popular music or it may be that the label did not want to confuse Shorty fans with this new style. Later Shorty would hide behind the name Boots Brown and record some super Rockin; Sax instros. I guess this issue was not a success as the pseudo name was never used again and the original is vanishingly rare.
