VARIOUS – THE HANK WILLIAMS SONGBOOK VOL. 3 JAMBALAYA (ON THE BAYOU) – ATOMICAT CD

The Hank Williams Songbook and more! series climaxes with an attractive assortment of artists on the 30 track album ‘Jambalaya (On The Bayou)’. The influence of Hank showed no sign of ending as 1950s Rockers absorbed his music and added bop rhythm to the Hillbilly verses. Many are songs included are based around Hank’s music or songs and the artists mimicked his style either in interpretation, tribute or with plagiarized versions. The albums sleeve notes will offer information on the artists and where applicable the session information for Hank Williams recording of the song. ‘Jambalaya (On The Bayou)’ maintains the same winning formula of the previous two albums. The music encases Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Rock ‘N’ Roll and Rhythm ‘N’ Blues. Artists Rockin’ and Rollin’ the Williams Song Book include; Carl Perkins, Ricky Nelson, Laura Lee Perkins, Conway Twitty, Jack Scott. Rhythm ‘N’ Blues interpretations are heard from; Doo wop vocal group The Pearls, Dave Bartholomew, Fats Domino, The Four Tunes, The Delta Rhythm Boys and Johnny ”Guitar” Watson with Johnny Otis. Hillbilly flavor comes from; Rusty and Doug with Wiley Barkdull, Eddie Dean, Al Terry, Moon Mullican and Walt Shrum and His Colorado Hillbillies. With a co-write from Williams sideman Don Helms ‘I’m Gonna Tell You Something’ from Lattie Moore offers top-class Hillbilly bop on which Helms also appears and Ray Price records the pacey ‘I’ve Got to Hurry, Hurry, Hurry’ with some of the Drifting Cowboys. The thematic story continues with the exploration of the song about fun on the bayou, New Orleans heavyweight Fats Domino adds his style to ‘Jambalaya (On The Bayou)’ and Eddie Shuler’ All Star Reveliers remodel the title as ‘Jambalaya Boogie’, which becomes a stomping Cajun bop. Cajun brothers Rusty and Doug with Wiley Barkdull continue the Native-American saga as they sing about the wooden Indian ‘Kaw-Liga’.
