Mississippi has been the cradle of a host of great music and home to a legion of fine recording artists. At the top o’ the heap is the singer with Clyde Leoppard’s Snearly Ranch Boys, Warren Smith, who was recommended to Sam Phillips by the bandleader in 1956 and was gifted the song “Rock ‘n’ Roll Ruby” by Johnny Cash – how could he miss! He has now gone on to a Country career with Liberty Records but we offer here four cool and different versions of some of his favourite Sun classics.
